Brief

Create a five second animation for the Ubisoft NEXT logo in a creative way and create a production package for the NEXT 2022 livestream.

commentary

Ubisoft NEXT is a competition exclusively for students of various game-making disciplines. Students submit work that follow a set brief. Staff at Ubisoft Toronto judge submissions, and award prizes to the best work.

Working closely with the video lead and graphic designer on the logo animation, we decided on an approach that represented all six disciplines. Through storyboarding and a bunch of discussion we came up with the “E” transitioning between each discipline before revealing the final logotype.

In order, programming is made up of binary; concept art uses brush strokes; technical art is a 3D wireframe; 3D art is an “untextured” 3D model shaped by moving light; level design uses pseudo modelling UI to “build” a shape, and animation is the final form animated in a bouncy way.

The logo in motion was a part of a larger production package that I spearheaded. One may find the final livestream here.
